House Boat trip

Unni, my parents and I went on a 1-day, 1-night trip in a house boat through the lagoons of Allepey. It was one the the best experiences ever. The house boat we rented belonged to Marvel Cruise. The houseboat had all the modern amenities to ensure a comfortable and luxurious stay. Moreover the crew was attentive to all our needs and ensured that we had a fun trip.

Starting point
Our houseboat experience started at 12:00 pm when we started from the dock. We had a leisurely sight seeing trip in the backwaters and savored a hearty lunch in the middle of a huge lagoon.

I made sure i sat in all the seats and enjoyed the view from all sides

Tea time
By evening we docked at a nearby village, called Chambakkulam to stretch our legs and buy some souvenirs. We came across a handicraft showroom and saw some master craftsmen at work, skillfully shaping wooden logs into life-like
statues.

The next morning we woke up to see a pretty sight near our boat. There was a group of beautiful Ambal flowers in full bloom.

Unni managed to get me some of the flowers. The captain jumped in and pulled out some roots for us to take home and plant. Pretty soon the pond at home is going to be a thriving Ambal pond.

It was an amazing experience, one I shall cherish forever. I felt connected to the calm water surrounding me, the slow paced life of the people living there, the majestic kites and eagles soaring in the sky and above all the silent and pitch black night decorated with millions and millions of stars. Everyone must definitely try this experience at least once this lifetime.

Onam @ Home

This onam was a simple celebration at our home in Bangalore. Unni's mom had gifted me a Settu Sari which I wore on that day. I made Sadya comprising of chor, sambar, avial, thoran, etc. Abhi and his friend had also come to join in with the festivities.

We watched a movie and lazed around the whole day after the feast.Yet another Onam went by and we bid farewell to Mahabali.

The day we met Shankaran

Our trip to Ezhupunna in Sep 2011 was a trip we were planning for ages. We decided to drive down all the way from Bangalore in our trusty Swift. This was the first time we were going on a long drive. Unni was excited that he got to use the Fifth gear for the first time!!
We were eager to meet the latest member in our family - Shankaran a pretty white snow ball of a cat. Unlike other cats though, this one lacks in meowing skills and keeps hiding under furniture. It took some time for him to warm up to us.

After the tiring road trip which lasted around 11 hrs we relaxed with some tea and packed a parcel full of Onam special goodies for Nish Chechi in Dehradun.

We had an amazing lunch at "The Grand". I loved the "Karimeen Polichathu".Only drawback is the long wait to get a table.

Camera always helps to waste time

It was Monsoon- the season of rains and damp earth smell. It is always relaxing to sit in the front porch with a cup of steaming hot coffee and watch nature carry on with her job season after season.

We had the usual family visits and shopping. This time Valiachan showed us his back yard garden where he cultivates fruits and veggies organically. He gave us some Kappa- Tapioca , to take home. They were delicious.

The days flew by and before we knew it we were driving back home to Bangalore and again back to Office!!
